No iPhone for Gussy

August 5th, 2008

…yet!.

Unfortunately my attempts to get my company to buy us all iPhones has been put on hold… it’ll still happen, for sure, but not before I was to leave for China :( They wanted to assess data usage for the next week so they could get the right plan. So when I get back I should have a nice new shiny toy to play with. My current phone barely receives calls these days.

Maybe it won’t even be an iPhone, by the end of the month maybe there will be something even shinier in the stores! Mmmm… shinyyyyyy

Mainly I just wanted the new toy so I could play with it on the plane, watch movies, all that kinda stuff. Oh well, I will have to make do with my iPod nano. So be it!

So I’m here at the moment in the QANTAS lounge, awaiting my flight to Beijing. I tried batting my eyes, smiling politely, even subtle flirting, it still didn’t get me an upgrade :( Cattle class for 12 hours… arrrrrrgggghhhhhh!

Adam called me about 20 minutes ago to tell me he misses me already… he was a sweetheart and drove me to the airport this morning to see me off. I hope the Swedish Swim Team can cuddle as good as he can… or if not, I am planning on hunting down a certain pommy diver who competed in the Commonwealth Games two years ago. Let’s hope he made the ‘lympics!

Remember this pic? mmmmmm

Dilemma Solved

August 3rd, 2008

There appears to be two camps of thought in relation to the iPhone. You either love them or despise them.
Whilst I would still never get a Mac as a computer, for me I think an iPhone will do the job quite nicely.

  • It’s a phone. That’s bascially all I need at the moment
  • It has WiFi. +10 points. I will be turning the HSDPA off.
  • It can view a proper web page without resorting to horrible “mobile” web pages. +10 poitns
  • It looks sexy
  • New apps and software releases will fix current bugs (hopefully)
  • It will replace my iPod and do the same job
  • It still looks sexy
  • So, I’m going to go in tomorrow and get the black 16GB for myself and everyone else in the office.

So on Tuesday, I fly out to China. I’m still in several minds about how the trip will pan out. I will either be very bored, or very overworked. Either way, it will be a great experience! I wonder if I will be able to get to my own website through the Great Firewall of China? I bet I won’t be able to get to half my blogroll though… dirty perverts, all of you!! **jokes**

    Dilemma

    August 1st, 2008

Folks, I’ve got a bit of a problem, and I need your help!

I’ve managed to talk my company into changing our phone plans, and on the new phone plan I can basically get any phone I want. Naturally, we all want iPhones.

SO, the question to you is:

    Should I get the:

White iPhone 16GB? Black iPhone 16GB HTC Touch Diamond

Any other handset suggestions will be noted but not listened to :-)

    Which one should I get????

    Newest addition

    August 1st, 2008

Welcome to Daniel Douglas Stewart, the latest addition to my brother’s clan! This post is very belated, the little tyke was born last Thursday, 24th July. He’s a cute lil’ fella, sleeps a lot, makes gurgling noises, all that usual baby stuff.

So that makes 3 kids my big brother now has to look after… I reckon if the poor fella thinks he has his hands full now, wait until they are teenagers :-)

    From potatoes to rice

    July 17th, 2008

Looks like I’ve got a bit more travel ahead of me shortly. Early August, I’m getting on a plane and headed to Beijing for the duration of the Olympics. I’ll be there looking after our customers (i.e. major TV broadcasters) with onsite support in case everything f**ks up. I’m quite chuffed to have been asked to go… will certainly be good experience.

One thing I do know… I will have to learn some Chinese. Not only do I hear that speaking in Chinese instantly drives down the prices when in a shop, but it also helps you get better quality food and drink when in restaurants.

    Question for my readers…
Have you been to China? If so, do you have any tips for me??

Adam says he doesn’t mind me going to China as much as he minded me going to Amsterdam (and London) earlier this year. After all, he knows my preference isn’t with Asian boys (or at least so I told him! I know few hot asian boys that I would love to drag off to my lair).

Even though, Silly boy! It’s the Olympics! Not only will I be around foreign TV and TV-type people all day, but the atheletes!!! I don’t care who I have to bribe or kill, I am going to get myself to the Swedish Swim Team’s after-party!

    [evilgrin]
    Now there’s a challenge! :-)

    Backyard of Darkness

    July 16th, 2008

For those that don’t know, Adam and I moved house recently. We haven’t moved a huge distance, in fact, the new place is literally 300 metres down the road, but the style of living is substantially different.

Our new backyard is huge. No, it’s absolutely massive. Naturally, Shelton LOVES it. Lots of space for him to explore. Only problem is that it is substantially overgrown. A week or two after we moved in, we had to secure the fences to keep Shelton in, which meant of course that we had to FIND the fence in the first place. Machete and shears in hand, Adam and I ventured into the Heart Backyard of Darkness. What we found was quite astonishing. No, not the tribe of natives that some of my friends believed were living out there, but instead not one but TWO buildings we didn’t know we had! So that’s 4 buildings, not including the house itself. Yes, in inner-suburban Ryde! And still we couldn’t find the back fence. Whilst building a fence along my “line of demarcation” between ours and the adjacent property, we were approached by a haughty old lady that was next door and had lived there for about 40 years. She told us the story about the property, that the original owners kept sheep, alpacas, chooks and goats on the property, and the buildings we found were most likely the old shearing shed and a feed storage building.

What she also slipped into the conversation was that the ol’ shearing shed Adam and I cleared out was the site of some interesting happenings a few decades ago, when two skeletons were found inside. Human skeletons. Perfect!

Can’t say we don’t have a house with history! That being said, I am determined that this will be the last rental property I go into. I’m so sick of moving, I really am! The time and money it takes up, and the way it throws your entire life into disarray for an entire month.

Still, we’re getting closer to making this house our home. The more furniture we set up, the less we’re reminded of it’s tacky 50’s decor and brick-patterned wallpaper. I’m still a little hesitant to go up in the backyard by myself, but maybe in time I’ll get the courage. After all, Shelton will protect me…. right?

    Back on Air

    July 9th, 2008

    Welcome back all!

So I’m back on air after a lengthy downtime. I was thwarted from blogging by the PC-gods, who saw fit to sabotage my server’s power supply, and take out the motherboard with it. That, combined with the house relocation factor, has meant I’ve been without computer or interwebs for over 2 weeks… the pain, the pain of it all!

However, I’m back up and firing, with a new PSU and motherboard. Thankfully the power supply didn’t destroy the chip as well, and motherboards are relatively cheap if you know where to go.

There is much to talk about… stay tuned!

    Cast your vote

    June 22nd, 2008

So, every now and then I’ll have a poll up on my blog, asking all sorts of questions from political to shallow. The last poll, titled “Will Rudd live up to expectations” had 60 responses, with 40% of you think that he will try and perform, but things will get in the way. An quarter thought that he was a man of his word, and another quarter thought he was a muppet that only promised what he did to get in. 10% didn’t trust a blonde in glasses. Go here to see the results in full.

Not surprising… the majority of my readers are fairly left-wing, and think the world of Mr. KRudd. Personally, I don’t trust the man yet. He’s been in office some time and he’s not moving that quickly despite good PR.

Anyway, I’ve got a new poll running now, focusing on what the Government can or should do about oil prices to the consumer. I’ve got a big spiel / article in formulation about what I think, but in the meantime I’d be very much interested to see what you all think :-)

Unfortunately I can’t embed the poll on this post, but I can tell you the questions and answers, and all you have to do is go to my blog and click your answer in the right hand bar.

Question: What should be done about fuel prices?

  • Use the excise to research alternative fuels
  • Nothing. Improve public transport
  • Cut GST on the excise
  • Cut or reduce the excise
  • Increase the excise to wean people off oil
  • Other
  • Go here to vote, right hand side:-)
