This site was originally developed back in 2003, and has gone through many revisions and site changes (I’m never happy until I get what I want!)

Originally the site included a hand-coded CMS (Content Management System), and only recently did I abandon that and move to WordPress.

The idea has always been to synchronise this site with my LiveJournal, as there was a dearth of content there and a number of established readers.

Originally done through LJArchive, and the WordPress import function, I soon came across anomalies where posts where embedded in comments, comments disappeared, and also that comments were out of order due to not being threaded.

There did exist a method to synchronise and thread LJ comments, but this a) didn’t work on a Windows-based server and b) was fairly complicated and buggy. So I decided to make my own.

The PHP script created actively downloads LiveJournal Posts and Comments using XML-RPC, and then inserts them into WordPress. It keeps a cached copy in its own database, so it’s relatively easy to keep the posts synched. The script runs on a cronjob every 6 hours, which means that hopefully nothing further has to be done on my part to keep VolaciousNet up to date.

The server itself has the following specs:

Webserver: Apache 2.2.0 with PHP 5.1.2
